The Sixteen

The Sixteen are Urbana’s most famous and revered heroes, next to Lord Urbane himself. They were a group of soldiers and mercenaries that made the ultimate sacrifice in the battle of Brisk Station shortly after the Fall of Tarello. They held the line for twenty-seven days against an army of nocturnals. If they had fallen sooner then Urbana‘s trade connections to the rest of Aden would have been severed and Urbane’s soldiers would have starved during the harsh winter. The Sixteen were posthumously promoted to the Order of Steel and buried in Honor’s Foundry.

The Sixteen are celebrated through out Urbana, particularly Mekanus. Statues of them are common on street corners and worked into architecture. Many of the city’s landmarks and districts are named after a member of the Sixteen. Many people keep representation of them in their homes or on their person, some even taking one as personal patron. They are the closest thing the people of Urbana have to gods, idealized representations of courage, loyalty, and determination.
